Technical Questions

What browsers do you recommend?

For the best experience on this site, we recommend using Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher or Firefox 3 and higher for Windows computers. For Macintosh users, we recommend Firefox 3 and higher or Safari 4 or higher.

What is a plug-in?

A plug-in is a small software program used by computers to view special graphics, play games and hear sound. Some features of the Chevroncars website require plug-ins to work properly. The plug-ins are free and simple to download. We recommend that children get permission from their parents before installing plug-ins on their computer.

Where do I get the plug-ins that I need?

Depending on the game you wish to play, you will need a Macromedia Flash or Macromedia Shockwave plug-in. You can get these for free. To view the QuickTime movies, you will need to get the free QuickTime plug-in from the Apple website for your Windows or Macintosh computer.

Are plug-ins for the Macintosh the same as plug-ins for PCs?

No. There are different versions of the plug-in for each system. Make sure you get the right plug-in for your computer. Wrong plug-ins won't work.

Do I have to pay for plug-ins?

All the plug-ins used (Flash, Shockwave and QuickTime) on the Chevron Cars website are free.

How can I hear sound?

You must have a sound card for your computer and/or built-in or external speakers. Make sure that you turn up the volume on your speakers and on your computer to hear sounds.

What does it mean to download?

When you download a file or software, it is being transmitted to your computer via the Internet. Remember to download files to an easily remembered location (a directory) on your computer or to your Desktop. Also remember to install software that needs to be installed after you have downloaded it.
